Snowshoes: what are they for?
Snowshoes are shaped so that they can “float” on the snow instead of sinking into it. The foot is attached to the shoe via an adjustable, jointed coupling. While walking uphill, the heel is kept free, and fixed when going downhill to ensure a safe stride. Moreover, the integrated crampon is useful for crossing icy stretches safely.
