Demanding loop riding over the legendary passes that made the history of Giro d'Italia. From Passo Giau down to Colle Santa Lucia and then up to Falzarego to return to Cortina.

Start riding up SR 48 road as far as Pocol (about 5 km).

Turn left and attempt the 11 km steep climb up to Passo Giau. Once on top enjoy the awe-inspiring view that stretches from Pelmo, Civetta and Marmolada massifs on the one side to all the Ampezzo peaks on the other.

A challenging descent will lead you to Colle Santa Lucia, then turn right and continue as far as the intersection with the road from Alleghe, turn right again and descend for 3 km until Cernadoi, where the 10-km long ascent to Passo Falzarego begins.

At Passo Falzarego, you may take the cable car up to Mt. Lagazuoi. An 8 minute ride will take you up to the namesake mountain inn with its spectacular view and excellent cuisine.

Descend by cable car, get back on your bike and enjoy the adrenaline of the 17 km descent back to Cortina.

Grading system

Easy: Relatively flat and wide, no challenging features, requires little physical effort. Climbs and descents are mostly shallow, total elevation gain between 200-400 m. Suitable for most people in reasonably good health

Medium: Slightly demanding itineraries requiring some physical effort. A good standard of fitness is required. Gradients are moderate and total elevation gain is between 400-800 m.

Difficult: demanding itineraries where great physical effort is required.  High gradients and considerable mileage. Suitable for cyclists with a higher level of fitness. Total elevation gain is between 800 and 1500 m.

Severe:  highly demanding itinerary where great physical effort is required. High gradient and considerable mileage. Only suitable for cyclists with a higher level of fitness. Total elevation gain is between 1500  and 2200 m.

Extreme: extremely demanding itinerary where huge physical effort is required. Grueling climbs and tiresome mileage. Total elevation gain is always above  2000 m.
