The starting point is along SR48 road heading to Passo Falzarego, about 9 km from Cortina centre. Leave your car on the side of the road, near the forest road access (closed to private vehicles) to Rifugio Dibona.
Wear your ski touring boots, apply the skins to your skis and start skinning up the forest road, well groomed by the farmhouse snowploughs. A few minutes ahead are Malghe di Fedarola’s attractive ruins. Shortly after, leave the main road and turn left up a track prepared by the owner to avoid intersecting the Tofanina ski run. The track gets narrower and steeper in some stretches and finally joins the forest road, before the fork to Rifugio Duca d’Aosta.
Now you are on a level stretch and you can enjoy the sight of majestic Tofana di Rozes in front of you.
The road continues along wide hairpins and leads to the mountain restaurant at 2083 m in about 20 minutes.
Once you reach the restaurant, we recommend changing your spare layer to avoid remaining sweaty.
After enjoying your meal, you are ready to descend.
Take the skins off, block the bindings and get ready to ski down the same way of the ascent.
As stated above, this is a forest road, not a homologated ski run, therefore the descent is at your own risk.
The descent lasts about 15 minutes and is not dangerous, but you need to control your speed.
Though we feel a tour guide is not necessary, hiring a mountain guide for your complete safety is always a good idea.
