Cortina is part of Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski area in the world. It includes 12 valleys, 450 lifts and 1220 km of ski runs, with just one pass. Cortina is also the starting point for one of the most famous ski tours in the Alps: first and foremost, the Sella Ronda circuit, but also the First World War Ski Tour and the Super 8 Tour in the Lagazuoi-5 Torri ski area.
In the name of its glorious tradition, following the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina has recently been awarded the 2021 Alpine Ski World Championship.
To get ready for the event, many new lifts are being planned and many existing ones will be renovated, but starting from the 2018-2019 winter season, skiers will be able to enjoy the new ski runs on Col Druscié, below the Tofane, and on the Faloria ski area. Together with Milan, Cortina is now bidding to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
